Terms of Service

Grimoire (“Grimoire”, “we”, “us”) is an independent, AI-assisted tool for cataloguing a Magic: The Gathering collection, tracking its value, and building and analysing decks. It is available on the web at grimoirestudy.com and, where and when we release them, in our mobile apps. These Terms cover every version of Grimoire you use.

Grimoire is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast. Magic: The Gathering is © Wizards of the Coast. Card names, card text, artwork, and other game content remain the property of their respective owners; we surface that material to help you manage cards you already own.

TBD — We have not named a legal entity. If Grimoire operates through a company, that company’s registered name and address belong here — most app stores and payment providers require it.

By creating an account or using Grimoire, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

TBD — No minimum age is set anywhere in the product or the codebase. App stores require an age statement, and children’s-privacy law depends on it. The owner must choose one.

You can sign up with an email address and password, or with a third-party sign-in provider such as Google where that option is offered. You are responsible for:

• giving an email address you can actually receive mail at;
• keeping your password confidential and your account secure;
• everything that happens under your account.

Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has accessed your account.

You agree not to:

• break the law, infringe anyone’s rights, or use Grimoire to harass, impersonate, or abuse other people;
• upload content to your public profile, decks, or feedback posts that is unlawful, hateful, or sexually explicit;
• scrape, resell, or systematically extract our data, or use automated means to place unreasonable load on the service;
• attempt to bypass usage allowances, billing, authentication, or any other technical limit;
• reverse engineer or interfere with the service or the systems it runs on.

Your collection, decks, notes, tags, profile details, and feedback are yours. We do not claim ownership of them.

You give us the permission we need to actually run the product: to store your content, process it, and display it back to you — and, where you have chosen to make something public, to display it to others. That permission exists so the service can function; it ends for a given item when you delete it or make it private.

You can export your collection and your decks to CSV at any time from within the app.

Some things in Grimoire are private by default and some are things you deliberately publish:

• Decks carry a visibility setting. A deck you mark public can be viewed, liked, and bookmarked by anyone, including people who are not signed in, and appears in community browsing.
• Your profile (handle, display name, bio, avatar) is listed publicly unless you switch your profile to private in settings. Making your profile private removes it from public listings and people search; it does not retract decks you have individually published.
• Your collection — the cards you own, what you paid, quantities, and condition — is private to your account.

Anything you publish can be seen, copied, and reshared by others. Please publish accordingly.

Grimoire’s deck coach, deck analysis, card scanner, and related features send information to a third-party AI provider and return generated text. That means:

• Output can be wrong. AI-generated deck advice, card identifications, rules explanations, and valuations are suggestions, not verified facts. Check anything that matters — especially card legality and prices — before you rely on it.
• It is not financial, investment, or tax advice. Card values shown in Grimoire are third-party market estimates. What a card is actually worth is what someone will pay you for it.
• It is not an official rules source. For rulings, defer to the official Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules.
• AI features are metered (see below) and may be unavailable, rate limited, or changed.

Grimoire has a free tier and paid plans. AI usage is metered in mana, a usage allowance: paid plans refill a monthly allowance each billing cycle, and you can also buy allowance packs that do not expire. Unused monthly allowance does not roll over into the next cycle.

• On the web, payments are handled by Stripe.Checkout and card details happen on Stripe’s systems — we never see or store your card number.
• Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can manage or cancel a subscription yourself through the billing portal linked in the app; cancelling stops future charges and your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
• Prices and allowances can change. We will give notice of a change to a plan you are on before it takes effect.
• Purchases made inside a mobile app may instead be processed by the relevant app store under that store’s own terms, including its refund policy.

TBD — No refund policy exists in the product or the repository. The owner must decide the policy for web (Stripe) purchases — particularly for non-expiring allowance packs — and state it here. App-store purchases are governed by the store’s policy regardless.

Card names, text, images, printings, and rulings come from Scryfall. Price data comes from MTGJSON’s daily feed, which aggregates third-party marketplace retail and buylist figures. Where competitive tournament signal is shown, it is provided by TopDeck.gg.

We do not control any of these sources, we do not guarantee that their data is accurate or current, and prices in Grimoire are estimates, not offers. Grimoire does not buy, sell, or broker cards, and is not a marketplace.

Grimoire is actively developed and parts of it are in beta. We add, change, and remove features, and the service may be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We do not promise any particular uptime.

You can stop using Grimoire at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms, or where we are required to.

You can delete your account yourself, from inside the app, in settings. Because deletion is irreversible, we ask you to confirm that it is really you: accounts with a password re-enter that password, and accounts that only sign in through a provider such as Google retype their own email address. When you confirm:

• if you have a paid subscription on record, we cancel it with Stripe first — so it stops billing — and then delete the account. If that cancellation fails we still delete the account and tell you, so you can cancel it yourself in the billing portal;
• your account and the data hanging off it — collection, binders, decks, wish list, transactions, sealed purchases, AI conversations and feedback, likes, bookmarks, follows, feedback posts and votes, referrals, and analytics events — are erased;
• a small set of financial and usage records is de-identified rather than destroyed: AI usage metering, billing events, the usage-allowance ledger, and match results you hosted keep their rows, with the link to you removed. We are honest about this rather than claiming a total erasure we do not perform — see the Privacy Policy.

Deletion cannot be undone, and we cannot restore a deleted account.

Grimoire is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any AI output, price, or valuation is accurate.

TBD — Warranty disclaimers, a limitation-of-liability cap, and any indemnity are jurisdiction-specific and must be drafted by a lawyer. Nothing enforceable is asserted here on purpose — an invented liability clause is worse than none.

We may update these Terms as the product changes. When we do, we will update the date below, and we will tell you about material changes before they take effect. Continuing to use Grimoire after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

TBD — No governing law, venue, or dispute-resolution process is stated, because nothing in the repository establishes where Grimoire operates from. The owner must choose the jurisdiction and decide whether to include an arbitration or small-claims clause.
